What is the JaxsParks Select Team?
The city of Jacksonville's JaxParks has one of the most dynamic programming missions in the country. The volume of available activities, educational programs and athletic leagues make it the leader in the state of Florida. In the spring of 2010, JaxParks partnered with the Episopal AmberJax Swim Club to provide a free 6 month program for 100 of Jacksonville's youth. Training and competing with a high level USA Swimming club was something that none of these kids had experienced before and we were pleased to be able to offer it to them. The JaxParks select team was expanded to another sport in the Spring of 2012 when we sponsored 20 more youths to compete in the first TriJax Challenge triathlon.
Many of the JaxParks select team members participate in the free lunch program at their schools and thus rely on our sponsorships to be able to participate in these programs. The TriJax Challenge races are a vital part of funding the JaxParks Select teams. For the Tri-Jax Challenge races, each child is provided a three month training regimen, bike, helmet, race jersey and entry fee. Sponsoring an individual child is a great way for anyone to make a direct impact!
We are pleased to have the support of Mayor Alvin Brown and City Councilmen Doyle Carter and Don Redman. We look forward to realizing their vision of expanding both the number of participants and the available events for our Jacksonville youth.
